When Jaguar introduced the all-new XKE at the 1961 Geneva Auto Show, it took everyone by surprise, including Enzo Ferrari. Literally overnight, the E-Type took the world of sports cars from rounded and somewhat boxy lines to a sleek and aerodynamic design that found a thousand ways to slice through the wind. Quite simply there was nothing like it and the E-Type was here to stay. Riding on a 96-inch wheelbase and measuring just 48 inches in height, the E-Type was long, low, and fast. Power came from Jaguar's precision engineered twin cam six that was durable, reliable and according to some, bulletproof. Jaguar would go on to offer a Series I, Series II, and Series III with refinements made at each level. The E-Type also proved itself at racetracks all over the world and in the present day they continue to be defined as the car that changed the world of performance sports cars.

Certainly, the E-Type Jaguar looks great from any angle but, when finished in a dashing color, such as this one, the animated lines of this famous car literally come to life. Finished at the Coventry, England factory on April 11th, 1962, this example was sold new by Jaguar Cars New York on April 26th to a Mr. E.V. Kapelan. At the start of 1969, this example was sold to V.C. Anderson Sr. of Fontana, California. Under his ownership, this E-Type was sparingly driven and reported to travel 2,000 miles a year until its third owner registered it in March of 1974. R.R. Praul of Sunnymead, California retained this Jaguar for an astonishing 34 years before selling it to a Scottish collector in 2016, with it reportedly being in very solid condition.

The next owner would commission Classic Autosports of Inverkeilor, Scotland to undertake a painstaking three-year, 1,800-hour nut-and-bolt restoration. Completed in 2019, the restoration was documented by photographs and invoice records. A truly special outcome, this E-Type was finished in its original colors of rare Opalescent Bronze over a beige leather interior and Fawn soft-top, per its JDHT Certificate. The hardtop was also finished in the same Opalescent Bronze. Noted as an all numbers-matching example, retaining its original factory cylinder head, engine block, gearbox, and body, a thorough rebuild of all mechanical components was completed during the restoration. Presented with a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox, it is a sporting combination and truly thrilling British Roadster, that beckons to be enjoyed.

Known for their lovely driving attributes and widely considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time, a fully sorted E-Type is in a league of its own and always a welcome sight at concours and show fields. Well-documented, thoroughly restored, and finished in its original colors, this British Roadster checks all the right boxes and will most certainly offer a spirited driving experience on the open road.
