After the end of World War II, America was in a position to celebrate their victories, and following a nearly four-year drought of new cars the public eagerly anticipated the countless new innovations that were predicted to appear in the postwar years. The leaders of the Chrysler Corporation, from President David Wallace on down, were poised to meet these expectations with something very special. Introduced in 1946 as part of a grand plan, the Town & Country series, originally proposed to offer a full complement of body styles, presented the latest in modern technology wrapped in the old-world style of wood on metal bodies. Chrysler's goal was to present a line of automobiles that would bring the company name to the forefront of design and elegance in motoring; this was achieved with the convertible Town & Country, creating a lasting impression on the motoring world.

Based on the New Yorker chassis, Town & Country convertibles were among the most expensive Chryslers. Starting at $2,743 in 1946, the spiraling costs of material and manpower drove the price up to $3,420 by the time the 1948 models hit the market. Over this three-year period a total of 8,368 examples were produced, usually in the ownership of a well-heeled customer due in part to the high price tag.

Offered from a collection of fine wood-paneled automobiles, this 1947 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible has been beautifully restored and features attractive green paint and finely varnished wood panels. Ideal for summertime cruising, thanks to its power-convertible top, this post-war beauty is motivated by a smooth 235-cubic-inch L-head eight-cylinder engine. Mated to a classic "three-on-the-tree" three-speed manual transmission, the driver gets the total experience of a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic®. As one of the top-of-the-line models offered by Chrysler, this Town & Country Convertible is well-equipped with a driver's side spotlight, Comfort Master heater, defroster, clock, radio, two-tone leather and cloth interior, and a matching boot cover.

Well-maintained, mechanically sound, and offered from an astute woodie collector/restorer, this 1947 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible is a pleasant reminder of the grand innovation that spawned from the post-WWII success from one of the biggest automotive brands in the world.
