The 2007 Corvette Pace Car was created to commemorate Chevrolet's ongoing partnership with the Indy 500. Corvette first took on pace car duties in 1978, and since then, has been a staple of the race, showcasing its performance capabilities to the world. Marking the ninth time a Corvette led the field at the legendary race, the 2007 special-edition model was designed to capture both the exhilarating performance and the heritage of America's most revered sports car.

In total 500 of these examples were built. The first 57 that rolled off the assembly line were shipped straight to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, arriving on March 15th to be used as track and festival committee vehicles. The first 57 examples all had the six-speed paddle shift automatic transmission and were unique in that they arrived at the Speedway with a "CHEVROLET" windshield header and lights placed behind the headrest.
