For the 1935 model year, Packard's superb Series 1207 models, all built on the 139-inch wheelbase, found an improved 473-cubic-inch V-12 engine that now produced 175 HP at 3200 RPM. With superior engineering skills, the engines in these Packard Twelves are considered by many to be the smoothest running multi-cylinder V-12s ever produced. Packard also showcased their modern and trendsetting styling as they introduced their own Streamline Moderne theme presenting ten different body styles with each model featuring fully skirted and flowing front fenders flanking the prominent "ox bow" grille shell and bright chrome grille, while fashionable and improved free-standing "bullet" headlights proved to provide brighter and more efficient lighting. During this period all of Packard's open car models were constructed and assembled by the skilled craftsmen under the direction of Raymond Dietrich, which included the jaunty model 821, Sport Phaeton.
