1931 Cadillac 355A Dual Windshield Phaeton
For 1931, Cadillac had a full offering for all to enjoy. Catalog coachwork was available from Fleetwood and in-house supplier Fisher and, under the direction of Harley Earl, the smallest details of fit, finish, and function were specifically tended to. Indeed, it was only a genius like Earl that could conceive of styling under the hood, which was applied by the Art & Colour Section and gave both models a particularly attractive presentation. Luxuriously trimmed interiors for both of the in-house bodies were supplied by Fleetwood and any Cadillac chassis could be ordered bare and fitted with bespoke coachwork from any of the world's finest coachbuilders. Despite the financial downturn caused by the crash of the stock market in October 1929, Cadillac still had an innate appeal among the shrunken pool of prospective buyers.
Loved because of their fantastic driving attributes and superior appearance, this example is perfect for someone looking for a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic® that can be thoroughly enjoyed yet be respectively shown as it is a recipient of a comprehensive restoration. As part of the Passport Collection for over 20 years now, it has received a complete restoration that still presents very well today, under the care by the experts in the Evergreen Historic Automobile's restoration shop.
The Fleetwood body is draped in a charming and captivating mint green, while the belt line is finished in a dark green that runs the entire length of the car. Sitting atop a set of wide whitewall Firestone tires that feature dark green wire wheels, it completes its captivating Full Classic® stance. The front is led by a pair headlights and Trippe Safety lights, a radiator stone guard, a Cadillac goddess mascot, and dual side-mounted spares topped with chrome sideview mirrors, while the rear features a folding trunk rack and small trunk space nestled above the rear rack.
Trimmed in a dark green that contrasts and pairs well with the mint green body, the interior is that of luxury. Divided by a folding tonneau shield, the driver is faced by an Art Deco engine-turned dash with multiple gauges, while the passengers' quarters feature a folding armrest, a tonneau shield with adjustable wind wings, and a comfortable footrest. Under the double hinged hood lies one of the best of the era, a 353-cubic-inch L-head Cadillac V-8 engine that is mated to a synchromesh three-speed transmission, an ideal combination for someone looking to enjoy this dual windshield on collector cars tours, such as the annual Enthusiast Tour.
An example that is sure to captivate while in motion or standing still, thanks to its superior presence and wonderful period color combination, this Dual Windshield Phaeton with highly desirable coachwork by the masters at Fleetwood, certainly lives up to Cadillac's grand marketing slogan, "Standard of the World."
