Perhaps there is no other body style that is more iconic than the classic American station wagon. Generations of Americans grew up within the large confines of the wonderful station wagon. Long before the advent of the minivan, the station wagon was a mainstay of the American transportation fabric. Whether it was hauling the groceries, picking the kids up from school, or the all-important Saturday night drive-in movie, the station wagon stood ready to perform its duties for the family in any way. Of course, there was no shortage of car companies willing to provide the motoring public with a beautiful wood-bodied wagon, but these were not inexpensive cars and the style and look of real wood usually carried a premium. With finishes of fine Mahogany or Birch, the wood-bodied wagons of the day would usually sell for more than the upper line convertible, but that premium also made for a grand entrance to the local restaurant or country club.

One of a handful of station wagons in The Great Outdoors Collection, this classic 1947 woodie wagon holds quite a few modern twists. An older restoration that has matured through the years, it was a former resident of the Charlie Thomas Collection before it was acquired by the Great Outdoors Collection in 2021. The black paint shows slight signs of enthusiast road enjoyment, while the wood paneling presents quite nicely. The wheels have been upgraded to black, while newer black wall tires were added to blend in with the black body and add a more sinister look. With a third-row bench seat, and upgraded modern Luftmusic system and speakers, this classic Super Deluxe Woodie becomes the ultimate cruiser for you and your friends.

Documented by a stack of invoices on file, The Great Outdoors Collection spent just under $90,000, yes $90,000, between February of 2022 and October 2023 to ensure this Woodie would deliver a smooth and reliably carefree ride whenever desired. The classic flathead V-8 engine was built by H&H Flatheads and now displaces a reported 294 cubic inches, as opposed to the stock 239-cid. Dressed in speed parts, it catches onlookers' attention when the hood is open. Backing the engine is a three-speed column-mounted manual transmission that has been sorted. Some of the other key completed projects include installing a new custom dual exhaust, custom driveshaft, upgrading to a Ford nine-inch axle with 3.70 gears, adding new leaf spring suspension, upgrading to an electric fuel pump that can be turned on and off from the cabin, and converting to a more reliable and powerful 12-volt electrical system with a modern alternator. The full list of work and parts can be found on Worldwide Auctioneers' website and will be on file at the Document Station during the auction.

Mechanically fit and tastefully upgraded in all the right spots, this '47 Super Deluxe Station Wagon that retains its period look is sure to be an instant hit and garner attention wherever its driven, whether it's a show or drive-in, to the cabin for a weekend stay, the country club for a round of golf, or just to pick up groceries at the local market.
