The Fleetwood 60 Special was marketed as a step between the standard Series 62 sedans and the larger Series 75 Fleetwood limousines. While the styling was reflective of the base models, the 60 Special rode on a chassis that had a four-inch longer wheelbase, 133-inches versus the Series 62's 129-inch axle spread, an extra four inches in overall length. This results in just a bit more leg room for rear-seat passengers, perfect for the well-to-do owner who depends on a driver but without the snooty appearance or need for a formal sedan or full limousine. Designated as body style 6019X, for 1955 a total of 18,300 were produced, each with a base price of $4729, FOB Detroit.

Honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures by winning several Oscars, including Picture of the Year, "Driving Miss Daisy" chronicled the 25-year relationship between Daisy Werthan, portrayed by Jessica Tandy, and her chauffeur, Hoke Colburn, portrayed by Morgan Freeman. Hoke's position as the driver for a traditional Southern matron had many memorable moments, and while both these performances were worthy of the awards and lauds, for many, the stars of this film were the series of automobiles used to transport Miss Daisy. Spanning the era from the immediate post-war years up to the early 1970s, one of the most iconic cars featured was the 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special sedan. The casting of this vehicle was genius, spacious and roomy and fitted with all the modern conveniences of the day, including factory air-conditioning which Miss Daisy refused to allow Hoke to use, even on the extended drive to Mobile.

This important celebrity vehicle was given a cosmetic restoration for use in the film. The interior was redone using modern materials that replicated the fine broadcloths originally installed. For the film, the car's engine and transmission were serviced and found to be in quite roadworthy condition. The original factory air-conditioning system was also serviced and despite Miss Daisy not allowing it to be used in the film, it is reported to be in excellent operational condition, chilling the car efficiently on even the warmest of days. Driving Miss Daisy is considered to be an iconic film for so many reasons, but for many, the cars are the stars.
