The 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet is a distinguished model from the W180 series, a lineup produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1954 to 1959. This luxurious cabriolet was part of the "Ponton" series, named for its unibody construction with integrated fenders, which was a significant design advancement at the time.
The 220S was introduced in 1956 as an upgraded version of the earlier 220A, featuring a 2.2-litre inline-six engine with dual Solex carburetors, producing 100 horsepower. In 1958, Mercedes-Benz further refined the model, offering an optional Hydrak semi-automatic transmission, which allowed for clutchless shifting-an innovation aimed at improving driving comfort. The 220S Cabriolet was a handcrafted vehicle, built with meticulous attention to detail.
