The 1960 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible stands as an icon of American automotive design and luxury, embodying the end of the exuberant styling trends of the 1950s. This model was produced by Cadillac, the luxury division of General Motors, under the leadership of Harley Earl, the visionary designer who defined the tailfin era. The Series 62 Convertible was crafted at GM's Detroit facilities, showcasing the brand's commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. The 1960 Series 62 Convertible was the brainchild of Chuck Jordan, Cadillac's lead designer at the time, who was working under the influence of Harley Earl's pioneering design philosophy. By 1960, Cadillac's tailfins-originally introduced in 1948-had reached their zenith, with this model featuring refined, horizontal fins compared to the dramatic, rocket-inspired vertical fins of earlier years. The design was more subdued, signaling a shift toward sophistication in response to evolving consumer tastes.

The front grille featured a wide, horizontal pattern with integrated dual headlights, a hallmark of Cadillac styling. Chrome detailing and luxurious trim underscored the car's prestige. The body was sleek and well-proportioned, with flowing lines emphasizing length and elegance. The Cadillac Series 62 Convertible became a symbol of American prosperity and style, often associated with Hollywood celebrities and high society. Its commanding presence on the road and luxurious features made it a sought-after model for those seeking a combination of performance, comfort, and prestige.

Following suit to the rest of the cars in The Great Outdoors Collection, this example is ready to be enjoyed on many more road adventures and trips, thanks to the care it has received and $48,000 invested in the mechanics in the fall of 2024. Completely gone through mechanically, the 390-cubic-inch V-8 engine and four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission remain turnkey ready. Documented by the accompanying invoices that can be seen on Worldwide Auctioneers' website, some of the upgrades and new components include new shocks in both the front and rear, installing a front disc brake conversion with a dual master cylinder greatly improving safety and stopping power, installing a new exhaust system, and equipping it with an electronic ignition conversion. Of other notes, the wiring systems were also gone through and tested, including replacing the front power seat system and convertible top wires.

Finished in a dazzling light blue poly, this tail-finned Caddy is outfitted with all the creature comforts one would want from the '60s while out cruising, which includes power steering, power brakes, power windows, a power bench seat, and a power convertible top. Other features include a radio, Guide-Matic Autronic Eye headlight dimming system and defroster.

The 1960 Series 62 Convertible marked the culmination of Cadillac's flamboyant 1950s styling before the cleaner, more restrained designs of the 1960s took hold. It remains a beloved classic among collectors and enthusiasts, representing the pinnacle of Cadillac's "Golden Era" of design. Its blend of artistry, engineering, and luxury ensures its enduring legacy as a memorable American automobile.
