The 1961 BMW R69S is a legendary motorcycle that represents the pinnacle of BMW's post-war engineering. Introduced in 1960 and produced until 1969, the R69S was the high-performance variant of the R69, built for riders seeking both reliability and power. It featured a 594cc, air-cooled, twin-cylinder boxer engine, capable of producing 42 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful motorcycles of its time. With a top speed of around 110 mph, it was favored by touring enthusiasts and long-distance riders.

The R69S was designed with BMW's signature Earles fork front suspension, which improved handling and stability, especially when carrying a sidecar. It also featured a shaft-driven final drive, a hallmark of BMW's commitment to low-maintenance and long-lasting motorcycles. Praised for its durability and smooth ride, the R69S became a favorite among serious motorcyclists and collectors.

As BMW's flagship motorcycle of the '60s, this R69S is a very early production example that is believed to be just the 27th R69S built. Equipped with a desirable 6.5-gallon Schorsh Meier sport tank and European handlebars, it is further elevated among other examples. A former resident of the Leo Schigiel Motorcycle Collection, it presents in impressive, largely original condition, as it has been carefully maintained.

Accompanying the sale of this bike is a treasure trove of documents pertaining to the ownership history, service work, model history, a copy of the owner's manual, and a copy of the original 1961 title and purchase paperwork. Other items include an original BMW tool roll. An early example of BMW's flagship model and a resident of a prolific motorcycle collection, this largely original example would make for a wonderful addition to one's collection.
