1964 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88 Convertible
The Jetstar 88 debuted during a period when American automakers were exploring ways to offer high performance and distinctive style at competitive prices. It was part of Oldsmobile's broader 88 series, which had been a staple in the lineup since the late 1940s. By the 1960s, the 88 series evolved to include more diverse trims, each targeting a specific segment of the market. The Jetstar 88 aimed to combine luxury, performance, and value, making it accessible to a wider audience.
The 1964 Jetstar 88 Convertible model featured a sleek, low-slung design typical of the era, with clean lines, a wide grille, and prominent tailfins that were starting to give way to more modern, squared-off rear designs. The convertible model added a layer of sophistication, appealing to those who desired open-top motoring with a touch of flair. In total, just 3,903 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88 Convertibles were built for the 1964 model year, making them a sought-after automobile in today's fast paced world.
The 1964 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88 Convertible offered here from The Great Outdoors Collection is a very attractive, well-presented, mechanically sound example that has been sparingly driven, but tastefully upgraded. The recipient of a quality frame-off restoration is finished in a classic two-tone black and silver and a new black power convertible top that reflects the style of the mid '60s. Adding to its stance are the chrome wheels wrapped in classic BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The underside has also been well-restored and well-maintained, a true testament to the care it has received while in The Great Outdoors Collection. The interior is adorned with faux black leather with comfortable bench seating in the front and rear. Mainly stock, the interior has been upgraded with a new "retro-style" modern Bluetooth stereo and speaker system.
A theme throughout the entire Great Outdoors Collection, this Oldsmobile received just over $30,000 in documented mechanical work and upgrades in 2024 alone. Ready for road enjoyment, the 330-cubic-inch Jetfire V-8 engine has been upgraded with a modern fuel injection system and new intake manifold that cost just under $7,000. Other notable items include new calipers, installing a Mishimoto radiator, an MSD EFI ignition system, and an Edelbrock Signature Series air cleaner. The full list of work performed can be seen on Worldwide Auctioneers' website or at the Document Station during the auction.
An iconic American mid-century convertible that is equipped with power steering, power brakes, and the mechanicals gone through, it makes for a wonderful driving example for its next owner and one that is bound for many more road adventures.
