The 1966 Ford Mustang played a key role in helping solidify its reputation as America's favorite pony car. Introduced as part of the first generation, the 1966 model retained the sleek, sporty styling of its predecessors while refining key features. With options ranging from the economical 120-horsepower inline-six to the powerful 271-horsepower Hi-Po 289 V-8, the Mustang appealed to a broad audience.

Though originally conceived as an affordable sports coupe for everyday drivers, the Mustang quickly found a place in racing. Ford recognized its potential and, in partnership with Carroll Shelby, developed the high-performance Shelby GT350, a track-ready version that dominated SCCA competitions. Privateer racers also took Mustangs to the drag strip and road courses, where they proved to be formidable competitors. The Mustang was not just a showroom success but a motorsport success, competing in everything from Trans- Am Road racing to NHRA drag racing. The combination of power, lightweight design, and affordability made the Mustang a racing icon, helping cement its legacy as a performance legend both on the street and the track.

Carrying that same legacy of being more than just a roadgoing car, this 1966 Ford Mustang Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Race Car has been built for one thing: the track. Producing a startling and bone chilling sound, it is powered by a 351-cubic-inch V-8 engine that has been stroked out to 363 cubic inches and runs on pump gas. Backed by a four-speed manual transmission and nine-inch rear end, it's a blast shifting through the gears on the track.

As the old race saying goes, "light makes might," and this Mustang is certainly that, eliminating anything that is not a necessity within the cabin. This also includes installing a full roll cage, and lightweight bucket seats with harness seat belts, which also meet racetrack safety standards and regulations. The winning bidder will also be given a large file of documentation of parts and service records from 1990 to the present day, as well as a clean and transferable state title. Having already proven itself in various competitions, this ready to roll, '66 Mustang race car eagerly awaits to be unleashed on the track by its next owner and take home the glorious checkered flag.
