From 1963 to 1967, for five wonderful years, Corvette's Sting Ray was the car almost every wannabe gearhead longed to ascend to. The wind-splitting streamlined design was as fresh and exciting for the last season as it had been for the first. It might have been the end of the line for the "second" generation of Corvettes, but many believe these are the finest ever produced. One story is that the 1967 Corvette as we know it was not supposed to happen. However, by late winter 1966, it was obvious that engineering and technical difficulties for the next generation of Corvettes left designers and marketing types with a short window to prepare a 1967 model. There were few physical changes, mostly limited to removal of some needless, but pretty, ornamentation and reconfiguring the front fender-side vents. The interior remained pretty much unchanged except for a redesign and relocation of the parking brake control. Colors were expanded with a couple of changes, and the popular knock-off wheels had been deemed unsafe by government mandate, so the finned turbine aluminum wheels became bolt-ons with common lug nuts concealed by a chrome cap.

Under the hood though, there was a little bit of news. Corvette now had just one base 327 V-8 left, but a total of four different 427 big-block V-8s. On July 12, 1967, an era in American motoring came to an end when the last "C2" Corvette rolled off the assembly line. While more than a million other Corvettes would follow, none of them have been able to capture that raw personality of pure horsepower and style that these cars presented.

Equipped with its numbers-matching 390-horsepower, 427-cubic-inch L36 big-block V-8 engine and M21 close ratio four-speed manual transmission, this 1967 Corvette has been thoroughly documented since first leaving the showroom floor. The recipient of a complete, older body-off-the frame restoration, it presents remarkably well and is finished in correct Marlboro Maroon with a black stinger hood for a truly iconic appearance. This example has both a white convertible folding soft top and a maroon hardtop. This Vette is truly a rare gem as it is 1 of only 1,553 of the 23,000, or less than 7-percent, of the Corvette convertibles in 1967 to be factory equipped with air-conditioning. The number of big-block convertibles with factory air-conditioning would be comparatively miniscule. Other equipment includes tinted glass, a factory AM/FM radio, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Redline tires wrapped around Rally wheels. Documents included with the sale of this Corvette are plentiful and include its original tank sticker, original dealer purchase documents, original build sheet, registration documents, an owner's manual, NCRS judging sheets, and an NCRS shipping data report.

Numbers-matching, four-speed, factory air-conditioning, well-documented, and finished in classic colors, this 1967 big-block Corvette checks all the right boxes as a highly desirable and important Corvette now and in the future.
