Once unleashed on the market, the new Fairlane GT and GT-As would prove to be a sales success. Trimmed on par with the Fairlane 500-XLs, GT models featured bucket seat interiors, center console shifter, and other deluxe appointments. Fairlane GTs were fitted with a four-speed manual transmission, but for those who want more civilized motoring, an automatic option was also offered in the GT-A models. For performance and safety, power steering was one of the standard features as were power-assisted front disc brakes with drums to the rear. For 1967, the Fairlane GT's power options were expanded, with the basic model now powered by the small-block 200-HP, 289-cid V-8 engine, which only a few buyers opted for, or the return of the big-block 390-cubic-inch bruisers offered with a four-barrel, now rated at 320 HP, and a bit tamer edition with a still potent 270 HP from a two-barrel intake system. During the 1967 model year, Fairlane production took place at three facilities in the USA: Lorain, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; and Atlanta, Georgia, where this example was assembled. A total of 18,670 Fairlane GT hardtops were produced, with a majority of those being GT-As. Base prices were right around the $2,800 mark and customers could add a long list of optional accessories.

This Lime Gold metallic GT-A has been with our consignor for a few years, as this performance-oriented Ford was purchased to be placed in his museum. According to the official Marti Report, this fabulous Ford was produced at the Atlanta assembly plant and, while the data plate shows a scheduled date of July 11, 1967, it actually came off the assembly line two days later on the 13th. It was 1 of 800 GT hardtops that left the factory with the Lime Gold metallic color and was 1 of just 327 that were fitted with Ivy Gold bucket seats up front and a matching comfortable full-width bench seat to the rear. After it was inspected and released from the factory, it was sent to Matthews Motors in Asheville, North Carolina. Factory-installed options included tinted windshield and a base AM radio. As part of the GT package, it is equipped with power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes with drum brakes to the rear. During its restoration, a set of optional chrome Styled Steel wheels were added on which are mounted a fresh set of Redline tires. Under the hood is as immaculate as the exterior with the big V-8 engine taking up most of the open space. A sight to behold, this 390 is fitted with a chrome dress-up kit including the air cleaner top plus the "Ford Power" embossed valve covers. It is reported that this Fairlane GT-A is quite potent on the open road with a powerful rumble from the dual exhausts, and neck-snapping take-off performance.

This example is restored to its original stunning good looks and is ready to impress wherever it goes. Since its restoration's completion in 2022, it has taken part in several judged events including the Fairlane Club of America's Concours where it achieved "Gold" Status with a score of 763 out of a possible 800 points. That same year, it was awarded the Red Bird Award by the North Carolina Chapter of the AACA and also earned AACA National Award nominations that year and again in 2023. This Fairlane's brutish sound of the big V-8 engine is music to any enthusiast's ears. The chance to acquire an award-winning Fairlane '390' GT-A in such a well-restored state presents a rare and unique opportunity for astute collectors.
