When Dodge entered the Trans-Am racing scene with Sam Posey's #77 Challenger, homologation rules required a street version of the car to be produced. This led to the creation of the Challenger T/A, a model designed to bridge the gap between road and track performance. Unlike the more widely available Challenger R/T, which emphasized raw straight-line speed, the T/A (Trans-Am) was built as a limited-production street racer, offering aggressive styling, race-inspired engineering, and a unique performance package that set it apart from other muscle cars of its era.

Additionally, the T/A's Six-Pack 340 engine was lighter than the R/T's big-block options, giving it a better power-to-weight ratio for nimble performance. The Challenger T/A also stood out with its staggered tire setup, one of the first American muscle cars to feature wider rear tires than the front, E60-15s up front and G60-15s in the rear, enhancing both grip and aggressive stance. Today, the T/A stands as an icon of American muscle car history, combining race-proven engineering with unmistakable Dodge styling.

Finished in its original, one of 37 high-impact EK2 Go Mango paint, this Challenger T/A commands attention with its bold presence and perfectly contrasted by a one-of-one white vinyl interior and one-of-one vinyl top that enhances its vintage Mopar appeal. The fiberglass scooped hood, blacked-out T/A graphics, side exhaust pipes, and ducktail rear spoiler further distinguish it as one of the most aggressive muscle cars of its era.

At the heart of this Challenger T/A is the factory 340-cubic-inch Six Pack V-8, an engine specifically designed for high-revving performance. Featuring a trio of Holley two-barrel carburetors, best known as a Six Pack, this small-block powerhouse was officially rated at 290 horsepower, though real-world figures were believed to be significantly higher. The combination of lightweight construction and high RPM capability made it a force to be reckoned with on both the street and track. Paired with a four-speed manual transmission and the iconic Hurst pistol grip shifter that is placed in the middle console, this Challenger T/A delivers an exhilarating driving experience, allowing full engagement with the road and a true connection to its racing roots. To handle the curves, the T/A featured special suspension tuning, heavy-duty shocks, and a quicker ratio steering box, all designed for improved cornering stability. To further its drivability and handling, the original owner checked the box for the optional S77 power steering and B51 power brakes.

With only 2,399 total Challenger T/A models produced in 1970, and just 989 equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, this example stands as an incredibly rare and highly desirable piece of muscle car history. Furthermore, according to the accompanying December 2024 Mr. Mopar Registry Report, this example is one-of-one due to its color and options combination. Documented in March 2025 by Dave Wise this car is complete with its numbers-matching drivetrain and original broadcast sheet. This one-year-only, Go Mango Challenger T/A represents one of the finer surviving examples of Dodge's short-lived but unforgettable Trans-Am contender. Here is a chance to truly get one of the most collectable and rarest Challengers made availible for purchase as documented by three of the leading Mopar experts.
