1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT1 Convertible
The 1972 Chevrolet Corvette LT1 represents the final chapter of the high-performance, small-block Corvettes from the late 1960s and early 1970s. The LT1 package, introduced in 1970, was Chevrolet's answer for enthusiasts seeking a high-revving, small-block alternative to the big-block muscle cars of the era. It featured a high-compression 350-cubic-inch V-8 engine, solid-lifter camshaft, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor, making it one of the most potent small-block engines of its time.
By 1972, the LT1 was nearing the end of its run, as rising insurance rates, stricter emissions regulations, and fuel economy concerns began to change the performance landscape. The 1972 model was the last to feature SAE gross horsepower ratings, with the LT1 officially producing 255 horsepower. Stylistically, the 1972 Corvette retained the iconic C3 "Mako Shark" design. However, it marked the final year for chrome front and rear bumpers, as new safety regulations would mandate the introduction of impact-absorbing bumpers in 1973. The LT-1 package also included heavy-duty suspension components, a higher revving red line, and distinctive badging, making it a favorite among performance enthusiasts. Only 1,741 examples of the 1972 Corvette LT1 were produced, making it one of the rarer and more sought-after Corvettes from the early C3 era.
This well-documented LT1 example is finished in a charming white over a brown leather interior and has both a hardtop and soft top. Accompanied by an array of documentation, including two original tank stickers and its original Protect-O-Plate, its equipped with all the desirable factory options one would want. As one of just 240 examples equipped with factory air-conditioning, its rarity is furthered with power steering, power brakes, 3.55 gears, Rally wheels, and a luggage rack. Other interior options include a Tilt-N-Telescopic steering wheel, AM/FM stereo system, audio alarm, power windows, and tinted glass. Being an LT1 example, under the hood lies the model specific 350-cubic-inch V-8 engine paired with a fitting four-speed manual transmission. Included in the accompanying history file are the aforementioned tank stickers and Protect-O-Plate, as well as an original owner's manual, and copies of titles and invoices records dating back to the original owner.
Acquired by the Passport Collection in 2011, this rare LT1 has been lovingly preserved and maintained. Thoroughly equipped with an extensive list of factory options and well-documented, this impressive convertible is a worthy addition to one's performance or sports car collection.
