Ever since introducing their automobile in 1886, Mercedes-Benz has been a pioneering leader in the luxury car market and a company that has kept a strict reputation for building only the finest. First shown in 1972 on the W116 platform, Mercedes-Benz introduced a new model, the S-Class. The S-Class represented not just the pinnacle of the automobile, but also the pinnacle of passenger comfort, a luxury sedan that offered all-day comfort, cutting-edge technology for its time, and, of course, a powerful engine. An S-Class model has been offered for each model year since, and the first S-Class introduced, the 450 SE and SEL are arguably the cars that really put the three-pointed star on the map for luxury sedans. Road & Track wrote this after reviewing and test-driving this model in June of 1973, "The Mercedes-Benz 450 SE is the best sedan in the world." A bold statement, indeed.

Offered from a private collection, this 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450 SE Sedan has been fastidiously maintained following an abundance of restoration work. It is finished in a pastel white color over a luscious red interior. The fit and finish is snug throughout, and this 450 SE presents very well. Following suit with the exterior, the interior cabin has been nicely restored and gives its occupants the true comfort and feel of what luxury was like in the '70s. The carpet, seats, and panels are done in a oppulent red upholstery that makes a lasting impression. Leaving the factory loaded with almost everything a buyer could want in the period - amenities included air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, a Becker AM/FM radio, power windows, and a new feature that engaged locking mechanisms throughout the car when the driver's door was locked.

Accompanying the sale of this fine Mercedes-Benz are the original factory manuals, both original data cards, a spare tire, and a Mercedes-Benz tool roll kit, items that are often hard to find. Ready to transport its occupants in total luxury thanks to its mechanically sorted 190-horsepower 4.5-litre eight-cylinder engine and obvious care, this splendid 450 SE Sedan proudly claims the title as the vehicle that set the standard for the S-Class category today.
