The Porsche 928 was a startling departure for Porsche. For a tradition-rich company controlled by a family that produced lightweight, rear-engine, air-cooled sports cars, the Porsche 928 was a complete break from the 356/911 lineage. By the late 1960s, executives including Ferry Porsche, began considering the addition of a luxury touring car to their lineup. With slumping sales of the then-current flagship 911, managing director Ernst Fuhrmann, credited for the development of the type 547 engine, used in the 550, 356 Carrera GT, and GS cars, initiated a design study in 1971 for a new range-topping gran turismo car. Several drivetrain layouts were considered early on including both mid- and rear-engine designs. Deciding that a mid-engine layout did not allow enough room in the passenger compartment and a rear-engine layout made emission and noise control challenging, a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive transaxle layout was selected. The chosen front-mounted type M28 single overhead camshaft, water-cooled V-8 engine displaced 4.5 litres, and featured a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system. Combining a transmission, axle, and differential in one integrated assembly in the rear, this new Type 928 achieved near 50/50 weight distribution - a tasteful combination of a sports coupe and a luxury tourer.

This 1979 Porsche 928 Coupe is finished in the attractive color of Schwarz Metallic over a desirable Pasha interior, which many would consider to be the best of Porsche interiors. A clean and correct example, it is fitted with Porsche signature rotary phone dial wheels and Continental tires. The engine is nice and neat, and the clean cabin has its original carpet, 928-floor mats, and Blaupunkt cassette radio.

The first owner of this Porsche accumulated around a reported 19,000 miles in the 23 years of ownership before changing hands in 2002 with its second owner who resided in Michigan. During their ownership, the car only gained another 10,000 miles over 18 years before it was realized that the car was going to sit more and more, so the decision was made to sell it. The second owner ended up selling the 928 to Casey Putsch of Perrysburg, Ohio, in December of 2019. Casey has a large YouTube automotive channel as well as being the founder of Genius Garage Racing, which specializes in automotive-focused educational programming. For the next year, he used this 928 as part of his educational content and began a light refurbishment, which included applying the Pasha interior to the upholstery, new dash switches and knobs, a plastic dash cover, and tuning the CIS fuel injection. After Casey's ownership, the car made its way to Reno, Nevada, where it spent a little under two years, and was driven sparingly while receiving work to make it even nicer. At the time of cataloging, the odometer shows just 32,514 miles.

According to the current owner, an extensive mechanical service was conducted within the last three years, as well as a full refurbishment of the air-conditioning, brake, fuel, intake, vacuum systems, and much more, costing $25,000. Accompanying the sale of this car is an original owner's manual, service records from 2021 to 2022, and various invoice forms. A departure from the Porsche norm, this clean and correct Pasha-lined 928 Coupe, has many more miles to give and will continue to carry on the creative models of the '70s Porsche fleet.
