The Porsche 911 Turbo is one of the most iconic sports cars to ever slap pavement. The Turbo, or Type 930, was the fastest German sports car of its time with looks that defined a generation. When the Cabriolet was finally released in 1987, the U.S. market was rabid for each one they could get their hands on, but only 540 were produced. During a production reign from 1975 to 1989, the greatest performing and most desirable are the single-year G50 five-speed manual gearbox cars. Only 450 Turbos with the G50 transmission were produced. This rare survivor is among that low number and it's offered here with matching numbers, low mileage, and in all-original condition.

Developed to accommodate FIA Group 4 rules requiring 400 manufactured automobiles, the Turbo became known as "Project 930," and the name stuck. It debuted in 1975 with a 3.0-litre Carrera RSR engine that was mated to a KKK turbocharger for considerably more power and top speed. Upon its introduction, it was the first Porsche with a turbocharger and was easily the fastest car on the Autobahn. By 1978, the engine grew to 3.3 litres and an intercooler was implemented for the first time. The inimitable Turbo was styled with a wider stance, provocatively flared wheel arches and a whale tail spoiler; the combination was sheer magic. The aesthetics were not merely for styling; the whale tail spoiler delivered significant downforce and enabled optimal power delivery to the rear wheels. The braking system was also improved with thicker, cross-drilled brake discs that allowed better ventilation and more responsive handling on wet roads. The cockpit was also enhanced with leather upholstery, air-conditioning, and power windows. Due to strict emission standards in the U.S., the Turbo was not imported to our shores from 1979 to 1984. When it returned, the American market was insatiable and a Cabriolet option, with a power soft top, was produced to satisfy the hungry public.

In 1989, the apex and final year of the 930, the turbo was equipped with a five-speed Getrag G50 gearbox and hydraulic clutch. The additional gear allowed smaller rev intervals, which granted the turbocharger more rapid boosts. The hydraulic clutch could be handled with less power, greater precision, quicker starts and enhanced comfort. A mere 540 911 Turbo Cabriolets were manufactured for the U.S. market, while a meager 184 were produced for the rest of the world. Flexible, agile, and fast, this final example delivered 300 horsepower and was capable of a top speed of 160 miles per hour and a 5-second blast from 0 to 60. The most desirable of this generation's 930 Turbos, this was the last year for the G-series and the only year offered with the G50 five-speed gearbox.

This particular 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, Chassis Number WP0EB0931KS070367, is a numbers-matching, all-original example. Robed in the original Guards Red paint over Porsche-crested chrome alloy wheels installed by the dealership, this car flaunts the iconic Turbo in truly original glory. The cockpit boasts an original tan leather interior, with striking black accessories, which exemplifies the result of meticulous care. Complete with original paperwork, window sticker, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a host of complete service records from new, this impressive automobile has extensive optional equipment. This includes limited slip differential, a desirable shorter gear shift lever, California emissions, supple leather seats, a black velour luggage compartment and a steering wheel with a raised hub. Standard equipment for the rare model also boasts heated electric mirrors, air-conditioning, power windows, power locks, power top, an alarm system, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Completed in Stuttgart on November 20, 1988, it was imported through Gaudin Imports in Las Vegas and was sold through Ogner Motorcars in California to Mark Graybill of Agoura, California. The carefully maintained car would find its way onto the concours greens where it was photographed for "Excellence: The Magazine About Porsche" in an article titled, "Concours 1010."

With only 40,000 original miles, this all-original red beauty has formidably withstood the sands of time. As 1 of only 450 five-speed manuals ever produced for the G-series Turbo and 1 of a mere 540 Cabriolets produced for the U.S., this car is a rare find indeed. Couple that with its matching numbers and all-original condition and you have a holy grail for open-top Porsche enthusiasts.
