After an extraordinary production run that lasted from 1963 to 1997, Porsche's iconic air-cooled 911 was dramatically reinvented for the 1998 model year as the Type 996. While its pedigree and rear-engine design were unmistakably Porsche, this generation heralded a major revolution. Changes included a completely redesigned body, a newly laid-out interior, and most notably, the engine was now water-cooled - a critical change necessary to keep contemporary high-performance engines at peak operating temperatures. In 2001, a Turbo variant was released, initially available only in coupe configuration until the 2004 release of the Turbo cabriolet. For the 2005 model year, the final year of the Type 996 Turbo, the top-of-the-line Turbo S model was released, available in either coupe or cabriolet, the latter of which is estimated at only 963 produced, and benefited from a meaningful increase in horsepower and performance figures. The twin-turbocharged 3.6L Mezger flat-six engine included the X50 Turbo Power Kit as standard, which included revised engine management software and larger turbochargers and intercoolers for a factory rating of 444 horsepower and 457 lbs-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle.

Car and Driver magazine was impressed with the new 2005 Turbo S Cabriolet, stating "The run to 60 mph is over in a drama-free 3.8 seconds, and the quarter mile passes in 12.2 seconds at 116 mph. To put this acceleration in perspective, that's a scant 0.1 second slower in the quarter than the legendary Ferrari F40. This 911 Turbo must have been a particularly healthy example because it was faster than any other 911 Turbo - manual or automatic - we've ever tested."

Produced for the 2005 model year only, the 996 Turbo S is one of the rarest water-cooled Porsches ever. The Turbo S is distinguished from the standard 996 Turbo by silver badging on the rear decklid and yellow-painted calipers as part of its ceramic brake system.

This 911 Turbo S Cabriolet is finished in very desirable black with a black convertible top, and an interior likewise upholstered fully in black with optional supple leather, seat heaters and driver's lumbar support. This all-black color combination is accented by factory 18-inch Turbo Twist wheels with Porsche center caps and yellow painted calipers fitted with Bridgestone Potenza S-02A tires. As a Turbo S, it left the factory with the X50 option, aluminum face instrumentation, six-disc CD player, factory navigation unit, Bose speakers, power adjustable seats with driver's side memory, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). Other amenities on this car include a power-operated black soft top, bi-xenon headlights, Porsche Communication Management, and automatic climate control. Additionally, an Evolution Motorsports intake and a Calibre K40 radar detector have been installed.

This is the highest-performance convertible available in the 996 generation and it can hold its own against most modern performance cars produced today. With its rear engine design and all-wheel-drive application, it is capable of reaching 60 mph in less than four seconds and a top speed of 190 mph. This car marks the final Turbo S Cabriolet available with a proper six-speed manual transaxle and is therefore truly a driver's car, as the 911 was meant to be. This well-cared for and rare Porsche is accompanied by its original owner's manuals with leather folio, Porsche Production Specifications sheet, spare key, car cover and a clean CARFAX® report. With low mileage and seductive black color scheme, this rare and exceptional Porsche deserves serious consideration by any sports car enthusiast.
