2008 ASVE AREX Super Coupe Roadster
Beginning his famed career on the Broadway stage and as a child TV actor, Dave Stollery was bound for greatness from the start. As time went on, he found his interest in design, specifically automotive, which would lead him to become an outstanding car designer. He spent seven years with General Motors and seven more as the first design director for Toyota's pioneering California studio. He later joined the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, where he developed the successful Trihawk, Harley-Davidson's first modern three-wheeled vehicle. From there he went into business for himself, creating his own R&D company, Industrial Design Research, where he focused on this automobile, the ultra-fast ASVE AREX Super Coupe Roadster.
If you've never heard of this ASVE American Roadster Experimental (AREX) Super Coupe Roadster, don't be too surprised, it's mainly due to the fact that this is the only one in the world. Never intended to be produced in large or even limited numbers, this ultra-fast supercar was built to show off Mr. Stollery's automotive genius in design and to be used as a marketing piece for his other business ventures. After its use by Mr. Stollery, he decided to donate this example to the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum in 2019, where it has been a fixture of the museum, drawing in each and every onlooker that enters.
The lightweight curvaceous streamlined body is unlike anything else, which adds to its one-off lore. The body cocoons the driver and passenger in an aircraft-like cockpit and straps them in via a three-point racing belt, and for good reasoning too. Built to race with whoever dare challenge, this AREX is equipped with a Magnuson supercharged LT1 Corvette engine that is linked to a thrilling five-speed transaxle. Combined with its lightweight design, it is said this 2008 Super Coupe Roadster is capable of reaching speeds near 200 miles-per-hour and throws down an impressive stomach dropping three second 0 to 60 time. Test driven in 2009 by MotorTrend magazine's automotive writer Robert Cumberford, he said this, "The AREX is one of the most exciting machines I have driven, pure expression of motion."
Along with the title of owning the only one in the world, the next lucky caretaker will also receive multiple original blueprints and drawings from the development stage of the AREX Super Coupe Roadster. A one-off supercar that retains a prolific aura, thanks to its boundary pushing performance and streamlined aerodynamic body, it presents as a rare opportunity to add to one's collection as this is the first time this 2008 ASVE AREX Super Coupe Roadster has ever been offered for public sale, and very well could be the last.
