The California Spider has been coveted since it was introduced in 1958. Without a doubt, the 250 GT "Cal Spider" is one of the most beautiful cars ever created by Ferrari. With its stunning bodywork designed by Pininfarina and masterfully executed by Scaglietti, the car was a collaboration of the very best. In terms of desirable open Ferraris, it continues to stand amongst the best. Revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 2008, the modern California introduced a number of firsts for Ferrari. As a completely new car in the Ferrari lineup, it was the first Ferrari with a front-engine V-8, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, metal convertible roof, multi-link rear suspension, and a direct injection system. These introductions showed that the California was a sporting grand tourer in the greatest sense and was no slouch either. The 454-HP, 4,297cc, 90-degree V-8 engine propelled it to an impressive top speed of 193 mph, and the California can go from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, just as fast as its mid-engine sibling, the F430.

The California lured many enthusiasts to the Ferrari brand for the first time. It provided a more sporting alternative to many luxury grand tourers, like the AMG-powered Mercedes SL models, the Bentley Continental GTC, and the Aston Martin DB9 Volante. Sixty percent of all California buyers were new to Ferrari, and their order books were full, with the turnaround from order to delivery being nearly two years. Though designed to emulate the great open 250 GT Spider, the California also looks fantastic with the top up. Open or closed, the car handles like no other. The driving experience is incredible, as it is both sporty and luxurious. The gear shifts are quick, precise, and operate without hesitation; at wide-open throttle, the exhaust sings out a fantastic note.

Finished in special order, Ferrari "Out-Of-Range" paint, Azzurro California Blu (typically ranging from $12,000 to $18,000) over an optional $5,900 special diamond stitched crema leather interior with optional Carta Da Zucchero (baby blue) piping, this is a very well-optioned example that has been carefully maintained throughout its life. The first Florida-based owner kept this example until 2016 when it was sold to its second owner before the Passport Collection acquired it in 2017. Sparingly driven throughout its life, the odometer shows just 11,591 miles from new at the time of cataloging. As the copy of the original window sticker shows, this example retains just over $46,000 in factory options.

As with any grand touring Ferrari, the interior of the California is a great place to be. Designed as a 2+2, the comfortable cabin features lush materials throughout. Along with the pricey, optional diamond stitch seats and upholstery, other options within the cabin include special leather, colored safety belts, and a Ferrari iPod plug in. With the roof up, the trunk is large and can accommodate luggage for two with ease, making it an excellent choice for weekend getaways and long road trips.

Factory fitted with a 453-horsepower V-8 engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; a discretely placed Passport Radar Laser detector can be found in the cabin for when one is feeling curious and daring and would like to test every ounce of power the Italian engine will give. Furthering the driving experience, this example is factory-equipped with the optional $5,114 MagneRide dual mode and front and rear parking sensors.

A worthy example to continue the California name, this stunning Ferrari remains a sporting Pininfarina-designed grand tourer with a collapsible hardtop. Sparingly driven with a clean CARFAX® and $46,000 in options from the factory, this stunning California checks all the right boxes for that collector and enthusiast looking for a special Ferrari to add to their lineup.
